Description:
This course introduces Architectural Design students to the nature of materials and their direct application in ordering space. Materials are considered for their physical properties, for their phenomenological effects, their historical and contemporary cultural significance, and for their particular use in contemporary building design. Consideration is given to the impact of material choice and deployment on people and the environment as materials are installed in building assemblies, interior and exterior. Assignments will be both individual and team based, and will include a number of field trips to building sites.
