Tide/IMG – Design for Care:This course introduces students to designing for care. Students in the course form a design team, working together on a collection of garments designed with care of use in mind. Care in this course is a broad theme that encompasses care in design – design that transforms the way we use clothes, specifically focused on garment care by fashion users: laundering, storing, repairing, altering as well as wearing fashion. The use life of a garment is approached as an opportunity for rich design exploration; the course demonstrates how various parameters and constraints can be catalysts for creativity and design thinking. Fashion and its materiality are examined in their temporal context, and garments are investigated for their potential to transform over time. Designing for high-satisfaction, low impact fashion use is presented in the context of larger systems within which fashion and textiles exist. Registration for this section is by permission only. Please contact Timo Rissanen if you are interested in registering.
