Description:
In this course, students will learn how to evaluate and make design-led decisions about the ecological impacts of products. Current societal unsustainability is in large part a material problem, centering around the kinds and quantities of materials with which environments are constructed. Designs hold materials temporarily together, as these materials are in processes and states of flux. This course explores these materials flows through the life of designed products and environments and their ecological impacts. Students will learn a range of current techniques and tools for evaluating the sustainability of their design directions, with a focus on Life Cycle Assessment.
