Kinetic Modeling introduces students to methods of modeling that apply mechanical forces to transform energy, transfer energy, multiply force or change its direction, and/or multiply speed. Students will consider cause and effect, motion, and interaction by studying precedents, learning and manipulating hand/power tools and machines in construction classrooms, incorporating digital fabrication as well as the potential for outsourced fabrication. The class will focus on hands-on testing of prototypes to explore how these functions can be applied to improve the performance of a product, enhance a user interaction, or imagine additional functions to existing designs.
