This course provides a comprehensive and integrative introduction to social research methods and familiarizes students with a variety of research perspectives used to explore urban life. By developing a process of learning that connects the quality of the social and urban research methods with the issue of democracy, the course immerses the students into a collective reflection and a deep conversation about the relationship between democracy and research. The course is guided by the exploration of two main questions: Which methodologies and epistemologies are capable to democratize the production of social research and the access to knowledge? How can social research contribute to the democratization of urban life?
