Description:
The aim of this seminar is to equip students with specific research techniques toward the production of their capstone. Students will begin to formulate the nature of their capstone from three options: a 40- to 50-page thesis, an exam and 15-page paper, or a project and 15-page paper. In this course, students will also become familiar with the various theoretical, historical, and cultural frameworks that can support their research and in the process, consider various interpretive models that have been developed, contested, and in some cases overturned, throughout the history of thinking about design. Pedagogically, the aim of the course is to explore questions of how arguments are made and what it is that, methodologically, theories and discovery approaches open and close for understanding.
