Description:
One of the most popular genres on TV today with some of the most innovative writing in any genre, the TV sitcom is no joke. This course investigates the singularly peculiar art of the sitcom and challenges students to the rigors of half-hour TV comedy script-writing. Students work step by step from premise, to outline, to writing pages, to revision and classroom workshop critiquing. After careful analysis of a number of current and past televised sitcoms, students will work step-by-step to complete a script for an existing half-hour comedy (among a selection approved by instructor). Students will also learn about the business of the sitcom and are prepared for professional work.
