This course is for photographers who want to begin a professional career. Whether your goal is to make fine art photographs or work in commercial photography--photojournalism, fashion photography, advertising, etc.--this course provides a framework in which you can define and develop a professional practice. The course focuses on the business and marketing aspects of photography. Guest speakers who are currently working in the field provide real-world advice on marketing, choosing a specialty, breaking into the business and more. You will receive practical guidance in launching a career, such as tips for portfolio presentation, approaching galleries, business practices and copyright protections. Each student is expected to complete five projects and present them to the class for critique.
