Description:
Equivalency credit is typically reserved for students who are completing their last semester of courses or thesis work and are not taking a full-time course load. Full-time status at The New School is defined as enrollment for at least nine (9) credits; half-time status requires a minimum of six (6) credits. Some financial aid agencies and programs require that students register for 12 credits per semester; consult with Student Financial Services for more information. International students with certain types of visas are also required to register for at least 12 credits per academic semester; consult with International Student Services for more information. Matriculated graduate students who plan to register for less than these defined credit minimums but are engaged in approved “equivalent activities,” register for Equivalency credit. The "equivalent activities" must be an integral part of the student’s degree program. Contact the Graduate Advising Coordinator to apply for equivalency. NOTE: a student cannot register solely for Equivalency credit but must always register for degree credit as well.
