This course builds on the critical historical, theoretical, and technical foundation established in the Fall "Archives, Libraries & Databases" course. This semester we will put our theory into practice by working with The New School's Libraries and Archives to develop the institution's digital archives. The specific focus of our hands-on project(s) will take shape through our discussions in the Fall class, and will respond to student interest and institutional need. Our work might involve: creating interactive narratives that highlight already-digitized materials in TNS's archives; contributing to the Archive's digitization and cataloging efforts; collaborating with TNS faculty to piece together the histories of particular programs or departments--by gathering relevant documents, creating oral histories, etc.; helping the Library understand how various users might engage with the institutional archive, and contributing to the development of user-friendly interfaces to the archival material. Previous enrollment in "Archives, Libraries & Databases" is strongly encourage, but not required.
Course Open to: Majors Only
