Immigarnts play a crucial role in the labor market and yet, many are limited to low paying work in service, manufacturing or construction industries because of their low proficiency in English. Learning to communicate in English for many means membership, the ability to fully participate in society and have choices. The demand for English instruction is overwhelming, but the supply is lilmited. This course is a basic introduction to teaching methodology for the immigrant ESL classroom (English as a Second Language). Participants team-teach an ESL class for two hours per week which is monitored and supported by an instructor. Participants also meet weekly with the instructor and explore all aspects that impact the immigrant ESL classroom including socieconomic, political, and cultural issues. As the title suggests, both participants and English learners will learn from one another.
