Description:
When creating non-fiction video for the web, budgets are much smaller than for television or film and video producers often work as a crew of one, handling camera, lighting and audio equipment simultaneously and skillfully all by themselves. This course will provide students with the foundational production and conceptual skills to create their own video projects. Students will learn production techniques using digital camcorders and microphones as well as the basic concepts of non-linear editing using iMovie. In the course of the semester, we will view and discuss a number of documentary films, exploring different styles and storytelling methods. The goal of the course is for each student to develop, pitch, shoot and edit a 3-7 minute short form documentary. Students have access to New School digital video cameras but must have an external hard drive.
