Description:
This course will offer students the opportunity to gain an understanding of key concepts and skills essential to become global consultants for organizations and small business enterprises focusing on community development through social innovation, empowerment, and humanitarian design. The course will prepare students to work with marginalized populations, grassroots initiatives, and communities in emerging economies by designing and implementing sustainable projects through needs/asset-based capacity building, project and product design and development, and by establishing networks of collaboration. Students will examine and practice skills in the areas of sustainable development, social innovation, social entrepreneurship, design of community development models, products, and services, visual communication and documentation, fundraising, and facilitation of capacity-building workshops in informal settings.
