In this course, students will explore self representation in French literature, painting, photography, film, as well as in today’s pop culture, with samples from the French Renaissance to today. Identity, gender, non-conformity, multiculturalism, and socioeconomics will be addressed while exploring issues of education, family, community, war, etc., in French and Francophone contexts. Coursework based on readings, presentations, student’s led discussions, and regular written practice with creative exercises of self representation in French. Prerequisite: Advanced 1 or the equivalent.
