Making a documentary has become what writing the great American novel was a generation ago. If you are considering getting into the world of documentary filmmaking or are actually beginning a first or second documentary project, this course teaches you everything you need to know about documentary film production: choosing a story; finding subjects and financing through preproduction, shooting, and postproduction; and finding distribution and marketing in theatrical, television, and digital venues. You learn what it takes to create a successful film from both the creative and business perspectives. Guest speakers include documentary filmmakers, executives from companies that produce and develop documentaries, and other professionals in the field.
