Description:
This class uses a chronological framework to explore the shifting themes and expanding forms in contemporary art. Socially active works, performance based projects and participatory actions are examined along with works based in traditional mediums such as painting, sculpture and photography. New York’s thriving art scene, selected readings, time-based materials and artist presentations serve as resources for this class. Participation is required as we talk together to understand contemporary art’s wandering meanings. The final assignment is a proposed curatorial project.
