This course explores the history and practice of education in the art museum. Selected readings and experiential based learning projects allow students to gain an understanding of this rapidly expanding field. Issues covered during the semester include the historical and theoretical foundations of museum education, integrating digital technologies into museum programming, meeting the needs of different audiences and teaching with works of art in the museum. Students work independently and collaboratively as they develop projects for different populations using both traditional and non-traditional forms of communication. The New School Art Collection and New York City’s museums serve as resources for this class. Please note that some classes will meet off campus at selected museums.
