This is course is about truth and the different ways journalists have attempted to tell the truth over time. Topics include different definitions of truth ranging from the higher truth of novelists to the literal truth of journalists. With an emphasis on historical perspective, readings will include Ida Turbell, Hunter Thompson, John Reed and Ted Conover, as well as novelists who used journalistic techniques like Dickens and Zola. Students will keep an on-going journal based on their reading and will have two short papers and one final paper.
