Description:
Do you have a yen to write your own story? Come and learn to make art of your life. Write memoir, poetry, and theater. Explore characters from your own lived experience, give them voice, bring them alive in a four-week workshop with veteran writer/performer/activist Staceyann Chin. Read, watch and review the works of some of New York City’s historically relevant writers and performance artists. Enjoy weekly master classes with other New York City performers, writers and activists to perfect your performance piece. Visit local off-Broadway theaters, poetry cafes, and working artists as they create art in their environment in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Ingest the pulsing notes of the artistic life in New York City and let those notes resonate in the work you create. Present a finished piece at The Culture Project’s Lynne Redgrave Theater, NYC home for political theater.
