This is an introductory course for students to gain experience working on camera. It is ideal for all students of film – actors, writers, directors, DPs – to find out what about the actor’s process. Students will be paired up in scene-work and learn techniques of acting that are unique to being on camera – how to stay ‘in the moment,’ how to be present, techniques of physical blocking, and the challenges of a variety of script material. During class, scenes will be filmed and re-filmed subsequent to being rehearsed with the instructor. Scenes will then be viewed and examined. The basis of all acting is authenticity, and this core work is essential not only to the actor but to filmmakers who hope to achieve vital performances from their actors.
Course Open to: Majors Only
