Description:
This seminar introduces students to the field of consciousness studies. In the first part of the course, we will discuss what people think about consciousness, what it might be, what it might be for, why it evolved, what happens unconsciously, and its brain basis. In the second part we will discuss alternate states of consciousness, ranging from unawareness and denial, through hypnosis, hysteria, placebo effect, group mind, and in the third part, culture-bound perception, memory, reasoning and morality
