This course focuses on mastering basic clinical theory and technique in the context of the initial phase of the therapeutic process. Issues covered include therapeutic neutrality, transference/countertransference, resistance, differential therapeutics, treatment planning, and arriving at a comprehensive diagnostic formulation. Relevant biological, psychological, and social factors, along with research perspectives, are considered. This course includes a clinical practicum.
Prerequisite: successful completion of part I of the PhD comprehensive examination. Co-requisite: Course to be taken concurrently with GPSY 6271.
