This course focuses on mastering basic clinical theory and techniquein the context of the initial phase of the therapeutic process. Issuescovered include therapeutic neutrality, transference/countertransference,resistance, differential therapeutics, treatment planning, and arriving at acomprehensive diagnostic formulation. Relevant biological, psychological,and social factors, along with research perspectives, are considered. This course includes a clinical practicum. Prerequisite: successful completionof part I of the PhD comprehensive examination. Co-requisite: Course to be taken concurrently with GPSY 6271.
