This seminar is intended to be part introduction, part exploration of the philosophy of F.W.J. Schelling. We will read a selection of texts representative of some of the decisive developments of Schelling’s thought from 1799/1800, when Schelling was deeply engaged with the philosophies of Kant and Fichte, to his middle period (around 1813-1815), which is perhaps one of the most fertile if neglected chapters in the history of German idealism.
Not open to Undergraduate students.
