The 19th century saw the expansion of European military, economic and cultural domination around the globe, as Europeans conquered land, controlled trade, and imposed their own languages, religions and cultures. Focusing on the Middle East, this course explores theories, histories and discourses of imperialism, and responses ranging from collaboration to contestation, reform to resistance.
