This course presents an overview of Post Keynesian economics. We shall begin with an attempt to define the Post-Keynesian approach, an issue which is itself a matter of some debate. From there the course will take up the following topics: the various Post Keynesian interpretations of Keynes’s theory of effective demand; the economics of Michal Kalecki; Post Keynesian approaches to distribution and the theory price; Post Keynesian theories of money; demand-led growth (including a discussion of the Pasinetti theorem); the connection between Sraffa’s work and Post Keynesian theory. An organizing theme will be the nexus between the theory of distribution and the theory of effective demand.
