English is the language of global communications and demand for ESL professionals is greater than ever before. That’s why The New School—along with a team of international experts—has developed an innovative online MATESOL program. Offering two concentrations, teaching and curriculum development, this master’s in TESOL degree trains students to take a leadership role in this evolving field.
Our students come from countries around the globe. They are passionate about advancing their careers and understand the importance of effective communication in business, politics, nonprofit management, and education. Some have taught TESOL; others are ready to launch new careers in a field that allows them to help others and work across borders and cultures.
"The interaction among the online community of students is amazing."
Carmela O’Flaherty, MATESOL Student
After graduating, you can go on to teach languages in universities, schools, or private businesses. You can create new programs and develop new ways to teach as a director of curriculum development. Or you can work with NGOs, governments, and large international corporations.
While the TESOL master's degree is demanding, the flexibility offered by online study allows you to fit coursework into your life and career. Dynamic class discussions are led by renowned TESOL scholars, including Elton award winner Scott Thornbury and Jeremy Harmer. If you’re interested in the teaching concentration, you can begin your studies in our intensive summer teaching residency in New York City.
MATESOL is part of The New School—a university known worldwide for its commitment to social change, civic engagement, and development of creative solutions to global issues. |
