The Rock The Vote Campaign hopes to engage New School students, faculty, and staff in what will prove to be one of the most historical elections in your lifetime. Rock The Vote has been helping Americans to become part of the process since 1992.

A few specific goals that we hope to accomplish:

  • Increase the number of registered voters on the New School campus.
  • Inform and educate students about the election process and their impact on that process.
  • Become part of a larger mission to increase young voter turnout.
  • Most importantly, help give YOU the voice and ability to make your own decisions in 2008!

Facts & Figures: What's in the Numbers?

There are 44 million eligible young voters. You are the most diverse group of young people in history! You're civically engaged in your communities, passionate about the issues, and politically aware.

  • In 2004, 20.1 million 18-29 year olds voted, a 4.3 million increase over 2000. The turnout increase among the youngest voters was more than double that of any other age group.
  • In 2006, 18-29 year olds' turnout grew by nearly 2 million over 2002 levles. Turnout among the youngest voters grew by 3 percentage points over 2002 levels, twice the turnout increase of older voters.

The Issues: Need a reason to vote this year?

If the ability to speak out and made a difference isn't enough reason here are some more reasons to vote this year:

  1. The war in Iraq
  2. A higher than national average unemployment rate among young adults
  3. Lack of Health Insurance for 13.3 million young Americans
  4. The increasing populations of our nation's prisons
  5. Global warming
  6. Rising price of food and its impact on our citizens
