Adds, Drops, and Withdrawals for Degree Students

Adding/Dropping Courses
To add or drop a course, you must contact your advisor for approval and instructions. All course changes must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar, either in person or via MyNewSchool. No course change is effective until you have completed this process.

Please note that attendance in class(es) and/or completion of course requirements alone does not constitute formal registration and will not make you eligible to receive credit for that course. Likewise, failure to attend classes, failure to complete coursework, failure to complete payment, or notification of the instructor does not constitute official withdrawal and may result in permanent grades of “WF” on your record.

The following time periods apply for students adding and dropping on-site courses in all degree programs. Please note: There is a financial penalty for dropping classes once the term has begun. Click on the Refunds link for more information.

Withdrawing with a Grade of "W"

A grade of "W" indicates withdrawal from a course without academic penalty. Written permission to withdraw must be obtained from your advisor and submitted in person to the Office of the Registrar. In addition, graduate students, except at Parsons The New School for Design and Mannes College The New School for Music, can be assigned a final grade of "W" by the instructor. The course will appear on the student's transcript with a grade of "W,” and is not counted in the cumulative GPA.
