Welcome to Our International Community!

International Student Services (ISS) welcomes you to our international community.

At The New School, you will be able to take part in a diverse array of new cultural and academic experiences. The following is important information that new international students should know and resources to take advantage of during orientation week.

All new international students must attend the international student orientation session. The date and time will be announced after November 15.

ISS Holds
New international students will receive holds on their student account if they fail to check in or attend the mandatory orientations by the middle of the semester. To prevent a hold, students must properly check-in and attend the mandatory orientations. A reminder that your completed immunization forms and required documentation must be received in order to register and attend classes.

International Student Check-In Location
All international students, professors, and scholars must officially check in with ISS each and every time they enter the U.S., and at the beginning of each fall and spring semester. Please visit the International Student Services website for more information.

Students must bring originals of the following documents with them to the ISS check-in:  

  • Passport
  • Visa 
  • I-94 card
  • I-20/DS-2019

Drop-In Advising
Drop-in advising takes place on Monday and Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. at the ISS office. ISS advisors are available to see students for quick questions during drop-in advising. For complicated cases, please call the ISS office to schedule an appointment.

Online Orientation
New students are required to complete the online orientation within their first semester. To access the online orientation, please visit https://newschool.dormpro.com/forms/orientation/

New students are required to attend this orientation to learn about the ISS staff and services, important immigration regulations, and cultural adjustment.

New students and parents are invited to attend this reception to meet the International Student Services staff and other international students.

This interactive session provides new international students with resources for living in New York City and studying at The New School. Find out about our on- and off-campus activities, as well as how to cope with social and cultural adjustment.
