All International students, professors, and scholars must officially check in with ISS each and every time you enter the US and at the beginning of each Fall and Spring semester. All new internationals must bring their immigration documents in person to ISS within 10 days after arriving in the US. It is necessary that you update ISS if any change is warranted on these forms such as a change in contact information, immigration documents or change of foreign address. A hold is placed on registration for classes until check in and ISS orientation have been completed.
Here are the steps to check in:
Take a moment to fill-out the following forms:
- Official International Check-In Form.
You may complete and submit the online form OR download, fill out, print and submit the form to ISS in person or via fax.
- ALVIN
Verify or change your local and official address on the ALVIN website.
- Necessary Immigration Documents.
New Students
Please bring originals of the following documents and submit them in person at ISS Check In.
All necessary documents include:
- Passport and Visa page
- I-94 card (usually stapled to your passport)
- A copy of the I-94 card must be submitted to ISS every time you reenter the US.
- Original I-20(s)/DS-2019(s)
- Social Security Card if you have one
- All other relevant immigration documents
New students are also required to complete the Online Orientation within their first semester. Please sign-in to complete the online orientation and print the confirmation page at the end for your records.
Continuing Students
If there is any change in any of the necessary documents listed above, please make a copy and submit to ISS with scanned copies via email to iss@newschool.edu or paper copies via fax to 212.229.8992 or in person at the ISS office.
Please put your New School ID, Last name, First name and 'ISS Check In' in the subject line. For Example-
Subject: N00032694 Kim, Rosie ISS Check In.
- Holds Removal
The ISS support staff will remove the ISS hold on your record after you complete the check-in process. The ISS hold must be removed in order for you register for classes.
- SEVIS
The ISS support staff will verify your attendance in SEVIS after you complete the check-in process. This must been done each semester to prevent the termination of your SEVIS record.
