HEOP provides academic support and financial assistance to students who do not meet traditional admissions criteria, but who show promise for mastering college-level work. If you are accepted to Parsons or Lang through HEOP, you will receive the following services, aimed at helping you attain individual success:
Pre-Freshman Summer
All students admitted to the program are required to participate in an intensive six-week summer program to prepare them for the academic and/or fine arts challenges they will encounter during freshman year. Studio and liberal arts courses, counseling and workshops help them begin to prepare for and anticipate the demands they will face. Juniors and seniors serve as mentors to the incoming class and help to structure the summer experience. Various enrichment activities take place throughout the summer to add balance to the academic load.
Tutoring
Tutoring, an aid to academic success, is available for all students. Group and individual tutoring sessions are offered by the school or department or directly through the HEOP office. Freshman and students experiencing academic difficulty must attend regular tutoring sessions.
Counseling
All students receive personalized, one-on-one academic and career counseling. Counseling sessions will help you explore avenues for growth within the university, identify individual strengths and ensure a healthy adjustment to college-level work. Students will also receive on-going support and guidance in making decisions about their major, internship opportunities, financial aid, post-graduate study or work, and other topics. In addition, monthly group workshops are offered to help develop study skills and share strategies for academic achievement.
Financial Aid
Students accepted through HEOP receive full financial aid packages designed to meet the cost of education through a combination of grants, loans, and work. In addition, HEOP students receive a stipend for books, supplies, commuting costs, and other school-related expenses.
