The New School has established significant funding for institutional scholarships, fellowships, grants and stipends under its comprehensive aid program for 2009-2010. Graduate students and undergraduate students enrolling in Jazz or Mannes are not required to file an application to be considered for institutional funds as these awards are based on merit as part of the admissions process. All merit decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Graduate students and Jazz or Mannes undergraduates seeking aid from federal and state sources are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov using our School Code of 002780.
Lang students, Parsons undergraduate students, and New School for General Studies undergraduate students should complete the FAFSA or the online International Scholarship Application to be considered for funding in accordance with institutional policies. (See details at http://www.newschool.edu/studentservices/financialaid/apply.) Admitted applicants with complete and accurate financial aid applications can expect to receive an award notice within two weeks of the offer of admission.
Continuing students whose awards are based on merit (see above) are not required to complete an application for scholarship renewal, however, those students seeking aid from need-based institutional funds, or state or federal sources must complete a FAFSA. Undergraduate students whose institutional funds are based on need should complete the FAFSA annually before the stated deadline for renewal consideration and for limited types of federal or state funding. International undergraduates are not required to file a renewal application annually. Continuing student award processing begins in April and extends throughout the summer months. We encourage students to check the status of their financial aid and student account data online at my.newschool.edu.

Financial Aid Appeal Process: Students whose families have experienced a change in their financial circumstances since they completed their financial aid application should complete the front and back pages of the Petition for Special Circumstances to help Student Financial Services determine whether additional financial assistance may be available. All petitions should be complete and submitted to the Office of Student Financial Services with all required documentation. All completed petitions will be reviewed in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies. It is important to note that not all changes in financial circumstances will result in increased financial assistance.
