Rape is wrong, illegal, and reprehensible, but still tragically common. In the film It was Rape, eight women recount their experience with sexual assault—from a Midwestern teenager trying alcohol for the first time to a Native American woman gradually coming to terms with her abusive childhood. The result is an opportunity to empathize with people, and perhaps, to puncture some of the silence and denial that allows sexual assault to thrive.

Jennifer Baumgardner, the film’s director and former Lang professor, will participate in a Q and A after the screening. Student Health Services will be present with information on The New School’s Sexual Assault Policy and their prevention campaign, Yes Means Yes.

This event is co-sponsored by the Gender Studies Program, Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, the First Year Writing Program, Student Health Services, and the Office of Civic Engagement and Social Justice at The New School. For more information email, wellness@newschool.edu.
