    Congratulations on your acceptance! Advising begins with the selection of classes for your first semester and continues throughout your time at The New School. Advisors are here to help you clarify your goals, identify unique learning opportunities, and map a personalized path to prepare you to lead creative innovation. Your advisor will be assigned to you on the basis of your college, program of study, or major. In some cases, your advisor may also be assigned on the basis of your last name, year level, or specific area of interest.

    The registration process varies by program. You will be contacted via your New School email account with more information and registration instructions specific to your program. Below is general information to assist you in planning.

  • Schools of Public Engagement

    Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students

    Advising and registration for new students begins December 7 and continues through the beginning of the spring semester. Before you can register for classes, you will need to speak with an advisor. If you live near New York City or can travel to the city, your advising session will be in person. If you are not able to get to New York for advising, your appointment can be done over the phone or via Skype. Advising sessions are usually 30-45 minutes. Please contact the Bachelor's Program Office at 212.229.5119 or sus@newschool.edu to set up a new student advising appointment right away.

    School of Media Studies

    You will register starting December 2. Before you can register for classes, you'll need to speak with an advisor. You will receive an email with registration information, including how to contact an advisor.

    Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy

    You will register starting December 7. Spring 2016 registration information will be emailed to you. Be sure to check your New School email account for this information.

    MATESOL Program

    You will register starting November 30. You will receive an email from the director of the MATESOL program containing information about registration. Be sure to check your New School email account for this information. You will then meet the director for advisement.

    The New School for Social Research

    You will register during New Student Orientation week, which takes place January 19–22, 2016.

    Information for Accepted Students

    Students who have reserved their place at NSSR by submitting the required tuition deposit will receive an email from the Office of Academic Affairs at their New School email address. This email introduces students' academic advisors and provides instructions for scheduling an advising appointment and for registration. All new students must submit the required tuition deposit in order to register.

    Parsons School of Design

    Advising and registration for new students varies on the basis of degree and major program.

    Students in the following programs will begin registering on December 1, 2015:

    • Students accepted into AAS programs
    • BFA, BBA, and BS sophomore and junior transfer students
    • Visiting students
    • First-year BFA, BBA, and BS students
    • Graduate students accepted into the School of Art Design History and Theory

    Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts

    You will register starting December 1, 2015. For information about academic advising and registering for classes, please refer to these links:

    School of Jazz

    Advising and registration for new students will take place during New Student Orientation week, which begins on January 19, 2016. Throughout orientation week, you will take a series of placement exams covering all of the core musical subjects, private lesson proficiency, and ensemble placement. At the end of orientation week, you will have a one-on-one appointment with your advisor to go over the results of your placement exams and to register for classes. You can also visit the Jazz Academic Advising website for current information.

    Mannes School of Music

    In order to register, you will have to meet with an academic advisor. Advisors are here to help you clarify your goals, identify unique learning opportunities, and map a personalized path to prepare you to lead creative innovation. The spring 2016 registration process varies by program. You will be contacted by your assigned academic advisor via your New School email account with more information and registration instructions specific to your program. Below is general information to assist you in planning:

    Degree Programs: Bachelor of Music, Undergraduate Diploma, Master of Music, Professional Studies Diploma

    Mannes degree students register in person with their advisors. Registration appointments will be scheduled during New Student Orientation week (January 19-22). Mannes students who have completed their online placement tests, and who will be in New York City in January, are invited to schedule an appointment with their advisor prior to orientation week.

    Please check your New School email for updates regarding placement testing as well as orientation information.

    Certificate Program: ESL + Music

    Your advisor will be in touch to discuss your specific program components and give you instructions for paying your tuition. Registration will be completed by your advisor prior to your arrival for classes. The Mandatory Orientation and Welcome Workshop will take place January 21 and 22. Check your New School email account regularly for updates and important information.
