  • Intramural Sports and Recreation

The Department of Athletics and Recreation offers students opportunities to take part in physical exercise and sports while meeting new people, enjoying social interaction, and building community. We design programs and activities for students at all levels of experience, ability, knowledge, and interest. We also help our student staff members develop leadership and professional abilities.

    Our goals

    • Promote mental and physical fitness
    • Strengthen campus community
    • Build leadership skills

Throughout the academic year, the department hosts weekly group fitness programs, intramural team sports, outdoor activities, and special events. In addition, The New School now offers three competitive athletic teams: men’s basketball and women’s and men’s cross-country track teams. Through participation in recreational activities and intramural and interscholastic sports, students develop valuable skills in areas such as teamwork, time management, and networking. (Note: Many events are also open to New School faculty and staff.)
