SAFETY
HINTS

As Halloween ends, and the month of November begins, the Christmas
season is in full swing in New York City, and so are the opportunities
for us to become victims of crime.

The following are a few hints that may assist you in enjoying
the holiday season without fear of becoming a crime victim.

When on campus, study in populated areas, do not select basement
areas or classrooms that are isolated or out of the way. Become
familiar with your surroundings; check for fire alarm boxes
and exit areas.

If you see anyone who appears suspicious to you, notify a Security
Officer -(take note of the clothing and physical characteristics
of the person and what area of the University they are located).

NEVER leave your personal belongings unattended, not even for
a "second" -(books, CD players, bags, wallets, laptops, etc...),
if it is valuable to you, it might be valuable to someone else
too. DO NOT become so absorbed in your work that you do not
secure your items (pocketbooks dangling from chair backs, briefcases
on the floor or another chair out of view, wallets placed on
counters). During finals, remember to KEEP YOUR VALUABLES WITH
YOU in common areas such as the knowledge union, university
computing center, cafeteria and any other area that might be
inviting to someone with ill designs.

I do not think it can be stressed enough. With the Holidays
approaching, there are those who will try to separate you from
your possessions. |
CONFIDENCE
SCAMS

A number of the members of the campus community have recently
received what could only be considered a Confidence Scam via
e-mail. The sender seeks to obtain your personal information.

Do not be fooled. DO NOT DIVULGE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO
ANYONE.

If you receive such an e-mail, promptly delete it. |
