    Profile:

    Julie Behrens is the founder and principal of Project Urbanista, an urban planning practice specializing in Community-engaged Planning, Design and Development. Her research explores the intersection of (Im)migrant Integration and Urban Development in migrant receiving cities around the world. Julie has more than 15 years of domestic and international urban planning experience, most recently in Port-au-Prince where she advised on rebuilding strategies in neighborhoods destroyed in the 2010 earthquake. Prior to founding Project Urbanista, Julie worked at the NYC Dept. of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) developing permanent supportive housing for homeless, disabled and elderly New Yorkers. Julie served as Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras from 2004-2006 and holds an M.S. in Urban Planning from Columbia University in New York and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Dayton in Ohio.
