Faculty members at The New School are available for comment on the 2017 presidential inauguration and the incoming Trump administration.

NEW YORK, January 17, 2017 — Faculty members at The New School, a progressive New York City university with programs in politics, policy, and international affairs, are available for comment on the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and the incoming Trump administration.

Faculty members can speak on a range of issues, including Trump's populist appeal, his relationship with Vladimir Putin, his immigration, economic, health care, and environmental policy proposals, and relations with China, India, and Israel under his administration.

The following faculty members are available for interviews before, during, and after the inauguration:

  • Federico Finchelstein, Professor of History, is the author of five books on fascism, populism, the Dirty Wars, the Holocaust, and Jewish history in Latin America and Europe.

Area of Expertise: Donald Trump’s populist and fascist appeal

  • Darrick Hamilton, Associate Professor of Economics and Urban Policy, is the president-elect of the National Economic Association. He has written extensively about socioeconomic stratification in education, marriage, wealth, homeownership, health, and labor market outcomes

Area of Expertise: Affordable Care Act, racial and ethnic disparity in the economy and healthcare

  • Nina Khrushcheva, Professor of International Affairs, is a senior fellow at World Policy Institute and author of Imagining Nabokov: Russia Between Art and Politics and The Lost Khrushchev: A Journey Into the Gulag of the Russian Mind.

Areas of Expertise: America's relationship with Russia, Trump's relationship with Putin

  • David Plotke, Professor of Politics, is the author of Democratic Breakup: From the Civil Rights Act to the End of the Democratic Order, among other books. He taught a class on the 2016 U.S. election.

  • Michelle Depass, Tishman Professor of Environmental Policy and Management, served as an Environmental Protection Agency administrator and as program officer at the Ford Foundation, with a portfolio focused on the environment and community development.

  • Mark Frazier, Professor of Politics and Director of India-China Institute, has researched labor and social policies in China and is author of the book Socialist Insecurity: Pensions and the Politics of Uneven Development in China.
