Immersive storytelling symposium at parsons school of design

Symposium focuses on the explosion of virtual and augmented reality technologies, including Gear VR/Oculus Rift, Google Daydream/Cardboard, HTC Vive, MS Hololens

Sunday, February 5, 2017, 8:30 am-6:30 pm at The New School in New York City

WHAT:

Parsons School of Design at The New School presents a one-day symposium about the explosion of affordable virtual and augmented reality technologies. The event will take a critical look at the impact of new mass media technologies such as the Gear VR/Oculus Rift, Google Daydream/Cardboard, HTC Vive, MS Hololens and their “immersive” effects on theater, games, news, and entertainment.

The symposium will explore questions such as: Are these technologies as disruptive as the mobile phone? Are they accessible to all voices of the social spectrum? How are these media affecting the form of stories as they shift from passive to the self-directed exploration? Claims about the medium’s empathic effects abound but are they inciting viewers to action? How can we use these media to transform the learning experience in educational settings, in particular in art and humanities classes?
