the new school's parsons school of design and cooper hewitt announce the launch of new york textile month

The inaugural New York Textile Month is a city-wide festival that will celebrate textile creativity and promote awareness about the industry

Monday, May 23, 10-11:30 a.m. in New York City

WHAT:

Initiated by Lidewij Edelkoort, the trend forecaster and Dean of Hybrid Studies at Parsons School of Design, this event will gather all voices and expressions concerning fabrics, bringing together museums, galleries, showrooms, retailers, design studios, students, and the general public to discuss the importance of textiles.

“Today the world of art and design is confronted with a debilitating lack of knowledge concerning textiles," said Edelkoort. "Architects, artists, and industrial designers as well as fashion designers no longer know the materials they work with each day of their careers. Textile heritage is at a crossroads, and the need arises to protect these endangered species in the same way we have come to defend our animal friends in the natural world.
