Emmanuel Ceysson

August 24, 2016 – New York, NY – The New School announced today that Emmanuel Ceysson will join the Greenwich Village-based University as a professor of Harp at Mannes School of Music. He will join the University on August 28, 2016.

“We are thrilled to welcome Emmanuel Ceysson to Mannes,” said Richard Kessler, Dean of Mannes and Executive Dean for the College of Performing Arts. “As someone whose practice spans work as both an orchestral harpist and as a soloist, and also with his deep interest in styles and genres across the performing arts, Emmanuel brings a truly unique viewpoint to his work. We are excited for him to bring this unique perspective, experience, and enthusiasm to Mannes”.

As professor of harp, Ceysson will teach individual harp lessons, and will collaborate on large-scale productions with Mannes and The College of Performing Arts. Ceysson will also work closely with key Mannes faculty members to develop new opportunities for students, as well as provide mentorship beyond basic musical training.

“I am honored to join Mannes School of Music, and help with the evolution of the future of music,” said Ceysson. “Mannes is in the heart of Manhattan, and as part of the New School, students are able to make bridges to areas of study other than music. I am excited to help the students develop new ways of looking at music, while combining many different kinds of performing arts.”

Ceysson has been the principal harpist for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since September 2015; prior to that he was the principal harp for the Orchestra of the Opéra National de Paris. His unfailing commitment to his instrument has earned him the highest international distinctions. In rapid succession, he won the Gold Medal and a special performance prize at the USA International Harp Competition (Bloomington) in 2004, First Prize and six special prizes at the New York Young Concert Artist Auditions in 2006, and First Prize at the prestigious ARD Competition in Munich in September 2009, thus becoming the first harpist to obtain awards at three major international events. He was Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London from 2005 to 2009 and has taught at the International Summer Academy in Nice since 2010; he also gives regular master classes in France and in the course of his foreign tours. In 2010, Emmanuel Ceysson was nominated in the category ‘Solo Instrumental Discovery’ at the Victoires de la Musique Classique. In November 2011 he received a Prix d’Encouragement from the Académie des Beaux-Arts de l’Institut de France (Fondation Simone Del Duca) in recognition of his distinguished early career. A Naïve artist since January 2012, he released his newest CD, “Belle-Epoque” in May, 2015.
