Speculation, Now gathers the voices of artists, architects, designers, economists, scientists, and scholars of othernesswho reflect on topics such as the imaginary, notions of time and temporality, space and spatiality, and aspects of the economy. Hear from the editors and curators involved with the book at a program at The New School on February, 18.

Disaster Recovery & Resilience: Tips, Techniques, and Best Practices for Public and Private Organizations. A full-day program drawing upon the lessons learned from the World Trade Center, Hurricane Sandy, and other occurrences, from The New School’s Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy and Venable LLP’s Real Estate, Environmental, and Government Contracts practices. “Serial” and the Podcast Explosion. David Carr of The New York Timeswill moderate a discussion with Sarah Koenig, host and producer of "Serial,"Alex Blumberg, creator of the podcast "StartUp," former producer of "This American Life," and founder of NPR's "Planet Money," and Benjamen Walker, host of the podcast "Theory of Everything", about the creative explosion currently taking place in podcasting, and what it all means for the industry. Speculation, Now Book Launch. Speculation, Now gathers the voices of artists, architects, designers, economists, scientists, and scholars of othernesswho reflect on topics such as the imaginary, notions of time and temporality, space and spatiality, and aspects of the economy. The editor of the book is anthropologist Vyjayanthi Venuturupalli Rao, with curators Prem Krishnamurthy, founder of Project Projects design studio, and Carin Kuoni, director of the Vera List Center for Art and Politics. Latin America on the Move: Colombia Dialogues. The New School’s Observatory on Latin America, in partnership with CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, will host the first of a series of country seminars discussing strategic and current issues in the national agenda, with the potential to resonate regionally and internationally. Looking at the University: A Screening of “Ivory Tower” and Discussion with Director Andrew Rossi.  The first event in a series of discussions looking critically at the state of higher education will be a screening of the acclaimed documentary Ivory Tower, which questions the cost and value of higher education in the United States, followed by a discussion with director Andrew Rossi. Rethinking Human Rights: Challenges and Opportunities in the 21st Century. The Women’s Learning Partnership(WLP), in partnership with The New School’sGender Studies program, presents new documentary film on the impact of the communications revolution on human rights in the 21stcentury. Hate Crimes in the Heartland Screening and Media Studies Info Session. Rachel Meyers, filmmaker, will discuss her groundbreakingdocumentary on the media’s coverage of hate crimes spanning 90 years inTulsa, Oklahoma. Sanctions and Divestments: Economic Weapons for Political and Social Change. The 33rd Social Research Conference explores how sanctions and divestments have been used to influence policies on nuclear disarmament, climate change, and human rights. Speakers include Aryeh Neier, President Emeritus of the Open Society Foundations, Richard Macrory, Professor of Environmental Law at University College London, Richard J. Goldstone, former Chairperson of the South African Standing Commission of Inquiry Regarding Public Violence and Intimidation, and Nina L. Khruscheva, Associate Professor at The New School and Senior Fellow at the World Policy Institute.
