NEW SCHOOL STATEMENT ON FIFTH AVENUE WATER MAIN BREAK

At 12:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 15, a water main ruptured at 5th Avenue at 13th Street in Manhattan, according to the city's Department of Environmental Protection. The leak was contained by 5:30 a.m. In that time, the flooding affected several New School buildings: Fanton Hall (72 Fifth Avenue), the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center (2 W. 13th Street / 66 Fifth Avenue), and the below-ground levels of the University Center (63 Fifth Avenue). We continue to work with the City of New York to clean and restore these buildings. Students or staff who use these buildings should continue to check www.newschool.edu/status for updates.

The New School, including its new University Center, will be open for the beginning of classes on Monday, January 27th.
