NEW YORK, Sept. 16, 2014 - NYC Media Lab, in collaboration with the School of Media Studies at The New School, will present the city’s first-ever pan-university demo showcase of new media technologies. Hosted at The New School, the day-long summit will feature keynote addresses from Jon Oringer, Founder and CEO of Shutterstock, and Dr. Genevieve Bell, Vice President at Intel Labs, as well opening remarks by New School President David Van Zandt.

During an interactive demo session, faculty and students will present hands-on projects and research encompassing data, video, mobile, interfaces, and interactive design. Participating institutions include The New School, Columbia University, The Cooper Union, Cornell Tech, CUNY, New York Institute of Technology, New York University, Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Arts. In addition, corporate members of NYC Media Lab will issue project challenges to NYC’s university community throughout the day.

“We are delighted to work alongside NYC Media Lab to produce the most expansive showcase of student- and-faculty-led designs in technology and digital communications to date,” said New School President David Van Zandt. “Creativity, flexibility and most of all, the courage to innovate are the qualities that define success for individuals and companies in our changing economy. As a future-focused university, The New School is committed to creating opportunities like the Annual Summit that connect cutting-edge talent and research to companies and organizations to bring new ideas to market."

“With more than one million students and faculty, NYC is among the biggest college towns in the country – it’s an incredible asset that many companies don’t realize is right in their backyard. We’re excited to connect digital media and technology companies with the best and brightest thinkers across the City’s university campuses,” said Justin Hendrix, Executive Director of NYC Media Lab. “We believe those relationships matter to the future of the industry in New York City.”

The event will be held at The New School’s John L. Tishman Auditorium, located at 63 Fifth Avenue at 13th Street from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm on Friday, Sept. 19. Reservations are required. Visit www.nycmedialab.org/annual-summit for a schedule of events and demo descriptions.
