Mark Gibbel Named Chief Development Officer, The New School

New York (August 28, 2014)— The New School has appointed Mark Gibbel chief development officer. Mr. Gibbel leads the Office of Development’s strategic fundraising, institutional advancement, alumni relations, corporate and foundation relations, and board relations disciplines.

Mr. Gibbel joins The New School from Baruch College where he served as the vice president for College Advancement since 2009. In 2013 and 2014 he received awards from the Council on Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for his leadership of Baruch’s $150 million fundraising campaign and for superior overall fundraising performance for a comprehensive public college. Prior to joining Baruch College, Mr. Gibbel worked at New York University for 15 years holding several senior advancement positions. Notably, he led a successful campaign to raise $450 million as associate dean for Development and Alumni Relations for the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Mr. Gibbel has lectured and taught classes on fundraising at NYU’s Center of Philanthropy. He is also the author of the illustrated children’s book Oh, Harry! (Henry Holt and Co., 2003). He holds a master’s degree in American studies from NYU and an undergraduate degree from Goshen College.
