Bjarke Ingels, speaking at The New Schoolon Thursday, March 6

Bjarke Ingels is one of the world’s most successful and celebrated architects. The founder of architecture firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), he has received numerous awards and honors, including the Danish Crown Prince’s Culture Prize in 2011, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2004, and the ULI Award for Excellence in 2009. In 2011, the Wall Street Journal awarded Bjarke the Architectural Innovator of the Year Award. In 2012, the American Institute of Architects granted the 8 House its Honor Award, calling it “a complex and exemplary project of a new typology.” He’s also taught architecture at Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, and Rice University and is an honorary professor at the Royal Academy of Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen.

In the fall of 2013, Ingels added Parsons The New School for Design to that list. He co-taught a course titled “Cities With Wet Feet,” in which teams of graduate students within the School of Constructed Environments at Parsons imagined solutions for New York City’s uncertain future in a world of shifting climate. By proactively cross-breeding public infrastructure with social programs, the students’ works injected new urban life forms into New York, helping to design cities and buildings that are both ecologically and economically profitable–where sustainability is not a moral dilemma, but approached as a design challenge.

Ingels will give a talk at The New School on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. More information at this link: http://events.newschool.edu/event/bjarke_ingels_social_infrastructure#.Uw-yivRdUb4
