NEW YORK, June 24, 2013- Mannes College The New School for Music will host the 13th annual New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes (July 9 to 14) featuring the world’s leading classical guitarists. This year’s festival theme is Be a Player: Exploring Entrepreneurship and Creating Performance Opportunities. The Guitar Seminar is New York City’s only weeklong classical guitar festival, offering master classes, workshops, and rehearsals open to classical guitar players of all levels.

The festival also includes master classes and/or public concerts by performers Sharon Isbin, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Eliot Fisk, Antigoni Goni, recent Mannes graduates and rising stars Yen Lee, Pierre Ferreyra-Mansilla, and Celil Refik Kaya, and many more.

“This year’s festival will feature a number of world premiere performances, as well as enlightening seminars on creating opportunities in music,” said Michael Newman, co-founding director (with Laura Oltman) of the New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes and member of the Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo. “Performance is such an integral part of a player’s development as a musician, and we encourage guitarists of all ages to attend our master classes, workshops, and concerts to better learn how to establish careers in music.”

This year’s seminar features new sessions on the festival’s theme, Be a Player, which include information on marketing, business practices, and teaching opportunities, as well as a special Après-Concert Open Mic night at Machiavelli Restaurant (July 11 at 10 p.m.).

Mariano Aguirre is the Administrative Coordinator and Festival Director of the New York Guitar Seminar. For information and ticket reservations, full schedule, faculty bios, audio and video clips, sponsors info, visit the New York Guitar Seminar's website, http://mannesguitar.com/.
