"Our discussion will take place two days after Americans choose their president, a choice that will have enormous implications for the global environment," said Caldicott. "There is no more urgent time to discuss how love for the Earth can inform political action - and no more passionate advocate for justice and sustainability than Bob Herbert."

Loving This Planet features environmentalists and leading activists from around the globe discussing the chief environmental and social issues of our time. Together with some of the most brilliant thinkers and inspiring advocates of our time, including Maude Barlow, Bill McKibben, Martin Sheen, Jonathan Schell, and many others, Caldicott - whom Meryl Streep has called "my inspiration to speak out" - scrutinizes our unsustainable dependence on nuclear energy and the absurdity of nuclear arms and seeks to raise awareness about other planetary issues, including deforestation, sea-level rise, and privatization of water reserves.

Lannan Award winner Dr. Helen Caldicott is a co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility. She is the author of numerous books, including Nuclear Power Is Not the Answer (The New Press). She lives in Australia. Bob Herbert is a Distinguished Senior Fellow with Demos and a contributing editor at The American Prospect magazine. From 1993 to 2011, he was an op-ed columnist for the New York Times, writing a twice-weekly column about politics, urban affairs, and social trends. Mr. Herbert's numerous awards include the American Society of Newspaper Editors Award, the David Nyhan Prize from the Shorenstein Center at Harvard University, the Meyer Berger Award, and the Ridenhour Courage Prize for the "fearless articulation of unpopular truths."
