AMSTEL QUARTER TO PERFORM AT THE NEW SCHOOL
SCHNEIDER CONCERT SERIES WELCOMES famed SAXOPHONE GROUP

Program Includes Mozart, Barber, Tan Dun and more
Sunday, April 29 at The New School's Tishman Auditorium

WHAT: The Amstel Quartet performs moving string quartet transcriptions and saxophone quartet greats from Mozart, Barber, Glazunov, Tan Dun, Jan Sweelinck, and the New York Premiere of Michael Torke's May-June-July. The repertoire of the Amstel Quartet is original and inventive, from their performance of Bach's Second Cello Suite in D to Michael Nyman's music for the film The Piano.

Founded in 1957, The New School's Schneider Concerts chamber music series has been hailed in the New York Times as "one of the best deals in town for lovers of classical music." It is known for presenting many of the world's chamber music notables before their rise to fame. Peter Serkin, the Guarneri String Quartet, and Tashi made their New York debuts in Schneider Concerts; Yefim Bronfman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Murray Perahia also performed in the series early in their careers.

WHO: The Amstel Quartet, "the most colorful saxophone quartet in the world," has since its 1997 formation released seven albums. Their unique saxophone interpretations of a broad variety of musical pieces have earned them honors around the globe, including the Concert Artist Management Guild Award, The Kersjes Prize, the Gaudeamus Interpreters Concours, and a host of others.
